Traveller Review

  • EBC via three passes with NHT

    Dear all,

I would like to share my experience with the Nepal Hiking Team (NHT) from Kathmandu. It was simply excellent!

Honestly, I'm the type of person who always travels alone, capable of planning, organizing, and arranging everything with just a good guidebook. I did this when I went to Nepal for the Annapurna circle trek 6 years ago. However, this time, I joined a group of three friends at the very last minute, about 10 days before our flight. By then, they had already been in communication with NHT.

My friends faced challenges buying air tickets from Kathmandu to Lukla, so they asked NHT to arrange the entire trip for them, including these air tickets (someone had recommended NHT to them).

From the outset, I was impressed by the flexibility of Mr. Ganga, who always responded to my emails promptly. I had numerous questions, and Mr. Ganga answered each one with patience. Nothing was an issue, not even the ticket to Lukla. We received a detailed itinerary that was also beautifully presented, making it impossible not to anticipate the journey. It was excellent that a down jacket and sleeping bag were included in the package πŸ‘.

At the airport, our guide, Dipendra Dhakal, awaited us and escorted us to our hotel. Throughout the trip, he was always there, explaining details, inquiring about our well-being, and ensuring we enjoyed every day of the trek. He instilled in us the belief that we could conquer this challenging trek in Nepal. Calmness, confidence, charisma, willingness, professionalism, a positive attitude, and a sense of humor - these qualities radiate from Dip. He's truly the right person for the job. Plus, you can engage in conversations on any topic with him during the trek πŸ˜‰

During our journey, we slightly modified our itinerary as we managed to progress a bit faster, and this wasn't a problem either.

Thanks to NHT, Mr. Ganga, Mr. Dip, and our porters, I now have one of the most profound and beautiful experiences of my life.

Yes, it came at a cost, probably more than if I had traveled alone, but likely less than with other agencies. The value for money is undoubtedly favorable. Exceptional service, wonderful people, and no stress about reaching Lukla and returning. Plus, we got to keep the duffle bags, which was definitely worth it πŸ™‚

I highly recommend this team to other trekkers πŸ‘ŒπŸ˜‰.

  • Best team and Guide for EBC trek

Five of us embarked on this adventure. We were able to complete the EBC and Kalapattar thanks to the nepal hiking team. Our guide, Dipendra Dhakal, was amazing.

He went above and beyond to meet our needs. He exceeded our expectations. He is polite, friendly, knowledgeable, and very courteous. Shout out to Gangaji and our assistant guide, Ngima and our porters, Pasang, Binod, and Prakash.

They were a god send during the trek. Overall, our trip was successful because of the extra efforts of Dipendra. We will forever be grateful that we had such a great guide with us during this challenging and unpredictable trek.

He was always on hand with a smile on his face making it easy for us to seek his help if needed. He was so industrious that he became a secondary support for another group when they faced some challenges. Dioendra always looked out for our best interests, and therefore, he felt as if he were a part of our family rather than just a guide.

We highly recommend Nepal Hiking Team as well as Dipendra Dhakal.

Sincerely, Manjula, Girish, Ashesh, Ashish, and Ram from AZ.

  • Gokyo trek - Nepal Hiking Team delivers again!!!

The third time we have trekked with the Nepal Hiking Team. Brilliant experience again. The itinerary is well planned and advised to take in some of the most magnificent views in the Himalayas away from the crowds on the EBC trails. Our guide, Dipendra (Dip) Dhakal, was fantastic, as was our young porter Ishor.

Dip knew the route very well and looked after us brilliantly, making sure we got the best rooms and filling us in on the cultural and historic colors on the way. Dip always encouraged us and flexed the itinerary to suit us.

The trek itself was amazing. We opted for the luxury option, which put us in the amazing Yak and Yeti Hotel in Kathmandu - a quiet, tranquil oasis amid the charming chaos of Kathmandu. We also got four nights staying in luxury lodges - at our age, we allowed ourselves that luxury of hot en-suite showers and electric blankets!

Ganga also booked us into the famous Everest View Hotel, which allowed us to watch both the sunset and sunrise on Everest. Breakfast with the most amazing view the next day. The hotel only has 12 or so rooms so lovely and quiet once the Namche day trippers had gone. I have not spent any money on it since it was built in the 70’s, but huge character and style - a real experience.

Once higher up, it was the normal tea houses with Dip making sure we got great rooms and were well looked after. View from Renjo La pass and Gokyo Ri is astounding and jaw-dropping - I will never forget the experience of coming to the top of the pass and seeing Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu towering over the valley below.

Ganga and Balaram were as patient and responsive as ever in planning the trip. They advised us on the best route and transport options. It was a real VIP and personal service. We were met at the airport and escorted to the hotel. And Dip even came and escorted us to the airport from the hotel when we were leaving. Overall brilliant experience, and I would recommend Nepal Hiking Team to anyone.

Finally - I also need to mention our exceptional tour of Kathmandu with Dinesh Samsara, organized by NHT - Dinesh was so knowledgeable and articulate - a very clever guy and brought it all to life. Fascinating and educational insights on Hinduism, Buddhism and Nepal in general!!

  • Awesome trip

We hiked the classic Annapurna circuit for 18 days with our guides Deepak Dhakal & Shanker, and porters Raju and Bishal, and it was awesome. We booked as a couple and were grouped with 2 solo travelers. Great group; we played a lot of Nepali card games with the 8 of us in the evenings, while other guides seemed less social. During the day, our guiding duo provided us with ample information and some free entertainment as well. They also kept an eye on altitude symptoms, taking over a backpack on the pass for someone.

Overall, NHT is not the cheapest, but we stayed in nicer guesthouses, airport pickup and all food were included, the guides spoke good English, they transported our luggage to Pokhara without an extra fee, so in the end, it was good value for money. All communication upfront was effective (e.g., booking some extra nights in Pokhara upfront). Would 100% use them again when coming back to Nepal.

  • Magnificent Manaslu Trek

Our group of seven men, all around 65 years of age, completed the Manaslu Circuit with our fantastic guide, Diprenda (“Deep”).

He was knowledgeable, experienced, friendly, and terrific fun. The team of friendly and helpful porters enhanced our overall positive experience, ensuring we were well looked after throughout the trek.

The entire trek was efficiently managed and well-organized, providing good value for money. It included meals, teas, coffee, and all necessary entry permits.

The food along the way was not only tasty but also plentiful, with the team providing fresh fruit desserts each night and biscuits with our cuppas.

Accommodations ranged from excellent hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara to more basic, spartan conditions in Dharmasala, with a mix of comfortable lodgings elsewhere along the trail.

Some nights in April were quite cold to freezing; however, the blankets provided in the teahouses, along with the sleeping bag and down jacket supplied by the company, kept us very warm.

I recommend the Nepal Hiking Team, and you should hope to have Diprenda Dhakal as your guide.

  • Absolutely incredible ABC Trek

Me and my wife just completed our first trek in Nepal. The ABC trek itself is amazing as was our experience with Nepal Hiking Team.
Their prices were very competitive—comparable or even lower than what other companies offered. The pre-trip communication with the owner was seamless, which gave us great confidence from the start. We also really appreciated that this is a locally owned Nepali company, as we preferred supporting a local business over an international one.

The trek itself was unforgettable, and a big reason for that was our guide Dipendra. He took excellent care of us all the way along, going above and beyond to find the best available lodgings and making sure we were comfortable at all times. Overall, his kindness and constant check-ins made a real difference, and he was a lot of fun to be around. We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better guide than him!

  • Incredible Upper Mustang Trek with yara in September

Visited Upper Mustang Valley in August ‘24 and did the version of the trek that covers the eastern part, including Yara, which is a 12-day trek.

It was two of us traveling as a couple, and with no previous experience in long treks, we weren’t sure what to expect. All I can say is that the landscape was beyond anything we could have set in our minds, and we feel grateful to have experienced such a place. The villages, the people there, and the Himalayas all blended superbly to offer an incredible glimpse into this remote part of Nepal.

For those planning to visit Nepal during monsoon season, the dry climate of the region is an added bonus with minimal rainfall.

Lastly, I must mention the professionalism of our organizers, Nepal Hiking Team. Ganga, along with our guide Dependra and porter Surindra, took care of every detail and resolved any issues, allowing us to fully enjoy the trek. I wholeheartedly recommend their services.

  • Great experience during Manaslu Circuit

We completed the total 12-day Manaslu Circuit Trek, which was absolutely incredible! Our guide, Dip, shared with us a lot about the region and both Nepalese and Tibetan cultures, adding a whole extra dimension to our tour.

Beforehand, we planned the itinerary so we had a clear idea of what to expect. However, Dip adjusted the day-to-day schedule based on the weather and our fitness level, customizing the experience to meet our personal needs. This flexibility made the trek even more enjoyable and a great experience. Allowing us to make the most out of our 12 days on the trail.

  • Manaslu circuit, a very Nepalese experience

Our group of 7*60-year-olds took on the Manaslu Circuit trek, including the challenging Larke Pass.

The journey was tough, and we recommend having a good level of fitness and preparation before attempting it.

A huge thank you to our guide, Dipendra! His guidance, knowledge, and encouragement were instrumental in helping us complete the trek successfully. Dipendra’s thoughtful suggestions and small adjustments, like a day hike to Manaslu Base Camp, were invaluable for acclimatization and boosting our confidence for the challenges ahead.

Well done, Dipendra and Nepal Hiking Team!

  • Manaslu Circuit and Larke Pass

    What a trip it was!

Our group of seven trekked the Manaslu Circuit and crossed the Larke Pass, guided by Dipendra from the NHT.

Although we faced challenges at times, Dipendra’s expertise, deep local knowledge, and caring attitude made the experience enjoyable and successful for everyone. His commitment to supporting our group throughout the trek—and even after it—was truly appreciated.

A big thank you to Nepal Hiking Team, Dipendra, the assistant guide, and our hardworking porters for making this journey so memorable!

This was our fourth trek with Nepal Hiking Team. We specifically requested Dipendra Dhakal, who had been our guide last year, as he was exceptional. Last year, we completed the Renjo La Pass and Gokyo Ri, so this time, we wanted to tackle the other two passes. Nepal Hiking Team created a perfect 12-day itinerary for us. We allowed for more acclimatization and decided to finish in Gokyo, opting for a helicopter ride back to Lukla to fit the trek into our schedule.

We chose luxury accommodations up to Namche where available, and Dip did a fantastic job finding the best rooms and lodges for the rest of the trek. It was evident that he was well-connected and highly respected, knowing so many teahouse owners along the route. A highlight of the trip was the day walk to Ama Dablam Base Camp—an incredible experience with stunning views and a peaceful, off-the-beaten-path atmosphere.

The trek itself was amazing, with breathtaking views throughout. Unfortunately, my husband picked up food poisoning on the day we crossed the Kongma La Pass from Chukhung to Lobuche. By the time we reached Lobuche, he was quite unwell. We decided to end the trek after eight days, cutting it short by two days. As always, Dip and the Nepal Hiking Team were fantastic, quickly rearranging our helicopter pickup from Gokyo to Lobuche at no extra cost. They also organized a comfortable hotel stay in Lukla and rescheduled our Kathmandu hotel without any additional charges.

The next day, Dip expertly managed the chaotic Lukla check-in process, ensuring we and three other NHT trekkers got on the first flight out. Despite cutting the trek short, it was another amazing trip, and Ganga and his team once again proved why they are the best. We cannot recommend them highly enough.
