Sun Koshi River rafting is amongst the top ten rafting trips in the world and is a must opt for adventure activity in Nepal. Bhotekoshi River originates from the snow melted water of Langtang and Phubichyachu Himal that borders Tibet and beyond. The river water flows through Nepal as Sun Koshi River until it meets the Ganga River in India.

Rafting in the Sun Koshi River Rafting is a matter of joy. The rapids that varies from grades III – V are overwhelming and are named on the basis of previous experience collected by the rafters. You can get the movements like Meat grinder, High anxiety, jaws and big dipper as you dive in to the fun of white water. The views of lush valleys, mountains, forests and villages along the way makes the environment even more appealing. Sun Koshi River, the river of gold as per its literal meaning is known for its unpredictable nature. You will find the river calm and tranquil at one moment and the very next moment you will find it wild, turbulent and challenging.

Initiate your journey at Dolalghat after a drive from Kathmandu to the rafting starting point (Dolalghat). Once you arrive at Dolalghat, walk to the bank of river and take some practice sessions from instructor. Take a short briefing on do’s and don’ts during the rafting and opt for the real white water fun. Paddle as you enjoy the thrust of the river. The unpredictable nature of Sun Koshi River Rafting adds to the challenge of the river. End your journey at Chatra and walk to the nearest road for a drive back to Kathmandu.

Early in the morning, we drive towards Dolalghat admiring the magnificence of Himalayan ranges in our sight. Dolalghat is the starting point of our water adventure. As we move ahead towards the bank of Sunkoshi River in Dolalghat, we enjoy our lunch and take a shot briefing from the instructor about our journey. We will be explained about the do’s and don’ts during our trek. We initiate our rafting journey with few practice session and continue with real rafting experience. Today, we experience a Class IV rapid called Rotten Cave. In the evening, we stay at a tent set up in the bank of the river. (Lunch and dinner included)

After having our breakfast, we get ready with our gears and set off to experience a thrilling rapid of class IV+ known as meat grinder. We run straight down avoiding the holes to the left and right and continue our adventure down below until we reach a confluence where Sunkoshi meets Tama Koshi. We encounter a beautiful temple of Shiva here. We set up a tent for the night, (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

We continue rafting down below the confluence of Likhu Khola. Here we experience a short Class III + grade rapid which is followed by a long Class IV rapid which are named as pre anxiety and high anxiety respectively. We set a tented camp for overnight stay. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

As we start our day, we experience several thrill of Class III + rapids. Then we stop for lunch and get ready for the biggest and exciting experience of white water river rafting. The Harkapur II and III are the hardest rapid that we can experience throughout our journey. The rapids are tackled with care and technique. As we move ahead, we set a camp where we stay for the night. (Breakfast, Lunch and dinner included)

We continue our rafting journey to the point where the Dudh Koshi river joins to meet Sun Koshi river at the left. As the river widens, we come across some small rapids and paddle until we tackle the Jaws rapid. We spend our night in a tented camp. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

The day can be considered as the hardest day of our rafting journey as we come across Class IV + grade rapids. We experience the Rhino rock and jungle corridor rapids until we relish the beautiful waterfalls that cascade from both sides of the river. We spend our night in a tented camp. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

As we come to the end of our rafting experience, we may try kayaking if interested. The instructors will help us with the basic skills for manoeuvring the boats. We spend our night in a tented camp. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

As we come to the wrapping up phase of the journey, we get ready for the last stretch of the river. We will experience some Class IV rapids named Big Dipper. We move ahead until we reach a point where Arun and Tamor meets Sun Koshi to form Saptakoshi. Enjoying the lust in green hills, we float along the powerful water current of the river. At around two p.m. we wrap up our journey and drive towards Biratnagar airport. From the airport, we take a flight back to Kathmandu. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)
