Read our genuine feedback from past travelers with Nepal Hiking Team sourced from TripAdvisor, Google, Facebook, and Trustpilot.
This was our fourth trek with Nepal Hiking Team. We specifically requested Dipendra Dhakal, who had been our guide last year, as he was exceptional. Last year, we completed the Renjo La Pass and Gokyo Ri, so this time, we wanted to tackle the other two passes. Nepal Hiking Team created a perfect 12-day itinerary for us. We allowed for more acclimatization and decided to finish in Gokyo, opting for a helicopter ride back to Lukla to fit the trek into our schedule.
We chose luxury accommodations up to Namche where available, and Dip did a fantastic job finding the best rooms and lodges for the rest of the trek. It was evident that he was well-connected and highly respected, knowing so many teahouse owners along the route. A highlight of the trip was the day walk to Ama Dablam Base Camp—an incredible experience with stunning views and a peaceful, off-the-beaten-path atmosphere.
The trek itself was amazing, with breathtaking views throughout. Unfortunately, my husband picked up food poisoning on the day we crossed the Kongma La Pass from Chukhung to Lobuche. By the time we reached Lobuche, he was quite unwell. We decided to end the trek after eight days, cutting it short by two days. As always, Dip and the Nepal Hiking Team were fantastic, quickly rearranging our helicopter pickup from Gokyo to Lobuche at no extra cost. They also organized a comfortable hotel stay in Lukla and rescheduled our Kathmandu hotel without any additional charges.
The next day, Dip expertly managed the chaotic Lukla check-in process, ensuring we and three other NHT trekkers got on the first flight out. Despite cutting the trek short, it was another amazing trip, and Ganga and his team once again proved why they are the best. We cannot recommend them highly enough.

I highly recommend Nepal Hiking Team for any trip in Nepal! The guides and porters were fantastic, and every detail was arranged flawlessly.
If you’re planning a trek in the Everest region, consider skipping the crowded and overrated EBC trek. Instead, try the Gokyo Ri and Ama Dablam base camp treks!
The Everest views from Gokyo Ri are on par as stunning as those from Kalapatthar!

I recently completed the Everest Chola Pass Trek with Nepal Hiking Team, and it was an unforgettable adventure. From start to finish, the experience was seamless and truly exceptional.
Our guide, Uttam, was outstanding. His knowledge of the region, its history, and the local culture was impressive and made each day of the trek enriching and educational. Uttam's professionalism and patience were remarkable, ensuring that we felt safe, informed, and well-taken care of throughout the journey. His friendly demeanor and genuine passion for the mountains added a special touch to the trek, making every moment enjoyable. We shared many laughs each day and always had something to smile about!
We were also incredibly fortunate to have Amar as our porter/Sherpa. Amar was an absolute pleasure to trek with; his strength and dedication were evident as he safely carried our bags across the challenging terrain. Beyond his physical capabilities, Amar's warm personality and helpful nature made him an integral part of our trekking experience.
The Everest Chola Pass Trek itself was breathtaking, with stunning landscapes, challenging passes, and awe-inspiring views. We decided to go the clockwise route enjoying Gokyo valley first before embarking on Cho La Pass and EBC. We had phenomenal views and a perfect weather window for hiking - even the snowy Cho La Pass terrain was enjoyable and made for a real Himalayan experience.
The itinerary was well-planned, allowing us to acclimatize properly and enjoy each segment of the journey to its fullest. The support from Nepal Hiking Team was top-notch, from the accommodations to the meals, ensuring a comfortable and memorable adventure. The evening fruits after dinner were always a nice treat!
I highly recommend Nepal Hiking Team for anyone looking to embark on this incredible trek. Special thanks to Uttam and Amar for making our trek truly exceptional. Their dedication and hard work made all the difference, and I cannot recommend them enough for future trekkers.

A heartfelt thank you to the Nepal Hiking Team for crafting such an exceptional journey. This time, I embarked on two magnificent treks: a solo journey through Langtang and a group adventure to Gokyo. We were blessed with impeccable weather, ideal for climbing the Ri’s and conquering the pass.
I am immensely grateful to Rajesh, our guide, whose incredible attentiveness and exceptional knowledge ensured our comfort and enjoyment throughout. His infectious sense of humor brought us constant laughter, lightening our steps even on the most challenging days. The accommodations and meals provided were top-notch, enhancing our overall experience.
Our porters, Tulsi in Langtang and Som in Gokyo, were not just helpers but became part of our trekking family, always eager to assist with a smile. Planning this trek was a breeze, all thanks to Ganga from the Nepal Hiking Team, who was incredibly responsive and helpful, addressing all my queries with efficiency and care.
I cannot recommend the Nepal Hiking Team highly enough. If you are considering a trek in Nepal, do not look further; whether you choose Langtang, Gokyo, or any other route, you are in excellent hands with them. Their professionalism, warmth, and expertise not only meet but exceed expectations, ensuring every moment of your journey is nothing short of extraordinary.

Nepal Hiking Team offers a seamless and well-supported experience for this unique trek. Their expertise is evident in the inclusion of a helicopter shuttle from Gokyo back to Lukla, which saves you two days of trekking and provides a breathtaking aerial view of the Himalayas. They provide highly experienced, helpful guides and porters, with a ratio of one porter for every two trekkers, ensuring your journey is safe and comfortable. The company also handles all logistics, including seasonal flight arrangements from Manthali Airport during peak times, and provides a duffle bag, down jacket, and sleeping bag if needed, demonstrating a commitment to hassle-free trekking.
Your safety and well-being are a primary focus. The itinerary is designed with a full acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar, which includes a short hike to the Everest View Hotel to help your body adjust to the altitude. Your guide carries a first aid medicine kit equipped with an oximeter to monitor your oxygen levels and heartbeat throughout the trek. The inclusion of a "reserve day" (Day 12) in Kathmandu at the end of the trek is a testament to their understanding of potential weather-related flight delays from Lukla, ensuring you have a buffer and don't miss your international connection.
Past travelers consistently praise the company's professionalism and exceptional staff. Reviews on the page highlight guides like Dipendra Dhakal and Uttam for their knowledge, professionalism, and ability to create a fun and safe environment. One reviewer noted that when their husband fell ill, the team "quickly rearranged our helicopter pickup from Gokyo to Lobuche at no extra cost" and managed logistics seamlessly. Another reviewer mentioned completing their fourth trek with the company, calling them "the best" and highlighting the team's responsiveness and care, especially in managing the chaotic Lukla check-in process.
You can easily obtain a Nepal entry visa upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. A multiple-entry tourist visa for 30 days is available for US $50, and a 90-day visa is available for US $100, payable in foreign currency. You will need to bring two passport-size photos for the visa application process. This cost is not included in the package price.
Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), a representative from Nepal Hiking Team will be there to welcome you at the arrival gate. They will then assist you with a private ground transport transfer to your designated hotel in Kathmandu. This airport transfer is included in the "Cost Includes" section of your package.
The first two days are strategically planned for your comfort and safety. Day 1 is for arrival and rest. Day 2 is dedicated to recovering from jet lag after traveling across multiple time zones, ensuring you start the trek well-rested. This day also includes a pre-trek briefing by a representative, where you will receive crucial information about the trek route, safety protocols, local culture, and a final gear check to ensure you are fully prepared.
To book this trek, you can get in touch with Nepal Hiking Team by filling out the contact form on their package page. The team will then check availability for your preferred dates and respond promptly to guide you through the booking process. They also offer customized itineraries if the standard one doesn't perfectly match your preferences.
The Gokyo Lake Heli Shuttle Trek has a minimum group size of 2 persons. This ensures that the trek can be organized efficiently and allows for a shared experience, including the helicopter shuttle and porter services.
The provided content does not specify a detailed cancellation and refund policy. For specific information regarding deposits, payment schedules, and cancellation terms, it is best to contact Nepal Hiking Team directly. They are known for their flexibility, as noted in a review where they rescheduled a helicopter pickup without extra charges when a trekker fell ill.
Your package includes round-trip flights to/from Lukla. The flight from Kathmandu to Lukla is a thrilling mountain flight. However, please note that during the peak trekking seasons (March to May and September to November), all Lukla flights are operated from Manthali Airport in Ramechhap due to congestion at Tribhuvan Airport. The package includes transfers to these airports as needed. The flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu on Day 11 is approximately 30 minutes.
The unique "Heli Shuttle" feature of this trek occurs on Day 10. After you hike to Gokyo Ri (5,360m) in the morning, you will return to Gokyo village. From there, a helicopter will be waiting to fly you directly back to Lukla. This 15-minute helicopter ride saves you two days of trekking back the same way you came, offering a spectacular aerial view of the mountains, glaciers, and lakes you just visited.
Day 12 is a designated "Reserve Day" in Kathmandu. This day is included because flights to and from Lukla are highly susceptible to weather changes. Clear skies are essential for flight operations, and unexpected shifts can cause delays or cancellations. This buffer day provides peace of mind, ensuring you have a safety net for any flight disruptions without jeopardizing your international departure.
The Gokyo Valley trek is known for its tranquility and serenity, offering a fantastic alternative to the more crowded Everest Base Camp trail. Its highlight is the series of sacred Gokyo Lakes, a beautiful turquoise body of water significant to both Hindus and Buddhists. The trek culminates in a hike to Gokyo Ri (5,360m), which provides a spectacular panoramic view of four of the world's highest peaks: Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu, along with the massive Ngozumpa Glacier, the longest glacier in the Himalayas.
The helicopter shuttle from Gokyo to Lukla serves two main purposes. First, it significantly shortens the overall trip duration, allowing you to experience the high-altitude beauty of the Gokyo region without the lengthy return trek. Second, it provides an unforgettable experience, offering a unique and exhilarating aerial perspective of the Ngozumpa Glacier, the Gokyo Lakes, and the surrounding Himalayan peaks that you can't get from the trail. This feature is the defining element of this specific 13-day itinerary.
On Day 9, the itinerary includes a hike to the Fifth Lake, also known as Ngozumba Tse, at 4,990 meters. This is a less-frequented extension that takes you closer to the Cho-Oyu Base Camp area. The highlight of this day is walking alongside the Ngozumpa Glacier and enjoying stunning, up-close views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Makalu, and Mt. Cho Oyu from a different, more remote angle than the main Gokyo Ri viewpoint.
The trip is categorized as "Easy to Moderate." While the trek reaches a high altitude of 5,360 meters at Gokyo Ri, the daily walking distances are reasonable, averaging 4-7 hours per day. The itinerary is well-paced with a proper acclimatization day in Namche. The presence of the helicopter shuttle on Day 10 removes the most arduous part of the return journey, making it less physically demanding than a traditional out-and-back trek. Good physical fitness and some prior hiking experience are recommended.
The maximum elevation on this trek is 5,364 meters at the summit of Gokyo Ri. To mitigate the risk of altitude sickness, the itinerary includes a dedicated acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar (3,440m) on Day 5, with a short hike to a higher elevation. The trek also follows a gradual ascent, with stops at Phakding, Namche, Phorste Thanka, and Machhermo before reaching Gokyo. Your guide will carry an oximeter to monitor your oxygen levels and is trained to recognize symptoms of altitude sickness.
The best seasons for the Gokyo Lake Heli Shuttle Trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). During these months, the weather is stable, the skies are clear, and the mountain views are spectacular. Spring brings vibrant, warm weather, while autumn offers pleasant, breezy conditions after the monsoon. The helicopter and scenic flights also offer the best visibility during these periods.
Your safety is supported by several measures: your guide carries a first aid medicine kit and an oximeter to regularly monitor your heart rate and blood oxygen saturation. The itinerary includes a buffer day for potential flight delays and a proper acclimatization schedule. All your trekking staff (guide and porters) have their food, accommodation, salary, and accidental insurance covered by the company, ensuring they are well-supported to assist you.
Personal travel insurance is listed under "Cost Excludes," meaning you must arrange it independently. It is a mandatory requirement for this trek. Your insurance must cover personal injury, medical expenses, and, most importantly, emergency evacuation by helicopter, as well as trip cancellation and interruption due to unforeseen circumstances like weather-related flight cancellations.
Your trek will be led by one highly experienced, helpful, and friendly guide. For support, the company provides one porter for every two trekkers. The porter's role is to carry the bulk of your trekking gear, allowing you to walk with a lighter daypack and enjoy the journey more comfortably. The cost includes the porter's food, accommodation, salary, equipment, and insurance.
You are responsible for your personal trekking equipment, which is listed in the "Cost Excludes" section. This typically includes items like sturdy hiking boots, warm layers (including a fleece and a waterproof/windproof jacket), trekking pants, hats, gloves, sunglasses, and a water bottle. For a detailed packing list, it's best to consult with Nepal Hiking Team during the pre-trek briefing.
Yes, Nepal Hiking Team provides some essential gear to make your trek more convenient. They supply a Nepal Hiking Team duffle bag for you to pack your gear, which will be carried by your porter. If required, they can also provide a down jacket and a sleeping bag for the duration of the trek. After the trek, you will also receive a complimentary Nepal Hiking Team T-shirt, a trekking map, and a trip achievement certificate.
While basic lodges are used, the package includes a specific comfort upgrade. You will be provided with an attached bathroom with a hot shower at the lodges in Lukla, Phakding, and Namche. For the rest of the trek (in places like Phorste Thanka, Machhermo, and Gokyo), hot showers are not included and are considered a personal expense that you can pay for locally if available.
Your accommodation is a mix of comfort and authentic teahouse experiences. In Kathmandu, you will have four nights of accommodation with breakfast at a 3-star category hotel on a twin-sharing basis. During the trek, you will stay in the best available twin-sharing lodges (guesthouses). A notable comfort is that in Lukla, Phakding, and Namche, the package provides you with an attached bathroom and a hot shower.
Wi-Fi and phone calls are generally available in most villages, including Namche Bazaar, but they are not included in the package cost. They are considered personal expenses. You can purchase Wi-Fi access at most teahouses, and mobile data coverage can be spotty but is often available for a fee. Your guide will be able to advise you on the best places to find connectivity.
Teahouses along the route provide basic toilet facilities. In the lower villages like Lukla, Phakding, and Namche, your room will have an attached bathroom. At higher elevations like Machhermo and Gokyo, the facilities are typically shared, and a hot shower (if available) will be an extra cost. It is always a good idea to carry your own toilet paper and hand sanitizer.
The package includes a "Full Board" meal plan during the trek, which means all three meals—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—are included, along with tea or coffee. While in Kathmandu, the package includes breakfast at the hotel. Lunches and dinners in Kathmandu are not included, giving you the freedom to explore the city's diverse culinary scene on your own.
Teahouses along the trail offer a variety of meals, typically including local Nepali dishes like dal bhat (lentil soup with rice), as well as international favorites such as pasta, noodles, soups, potatoes, and porridge. Dal bhat is a popular choice as it is nutritious and often comes with seconds. The menu is a good way to indulge in local cuisine and get the energy needed for trekking.
The "Cost Excludes" section notes that soft drinks, including water, are not included. To minimize cost and plastic waste, it is highly recommended to bring a reusable water bottle. You can purchase boiled water at teahouses, which is a safe and eco-friendly option. Alternatively, you can use water purification tablets or a UV sterilizer. Your guide can advise on the best practices for water safety along the trail.
Yes, Nepal Hiking Team offers complete customization. As stated on the page, "If the above Gokyo Lake Heli Shuttle Trek itinerary does not meet your needs, we can design individualized travel plans based on your preferences and specifications." You can adjust the itinerary, add rest days, or combine this trek with other adventures like the Everest Base Camp trek, as offered in their alternate 17-day package.
The minimum group size for this trek is 2 persons. While the company organizes group treks, the page emphasizes that they "customize treks as per your preference." This strongly implies that you can book this as a private trek for your own party, allowing for a more personalized pace and experience. For specific pricing and arrangements for a private trek, you would need to contact them directly.
Tipping and gratuities for trekking staff and drivers are listed under "Cost Excludes." While it is not mandatory, tipping is a customary way to show appreciation for the hard work and dedication of your guide and porter(s). The amount is at your discretion, based on your level of satisfaction with the service. A common practice is to tip as a group at the end of the trek, and your guide can help facilitate this.
